The owners and hosts at the Highlands Hostel, Patricia Sauer and Bricin Lyons provide comfortable and affordable accommodation at this converted church. They are exceptionally hospitable and friendly and go out of their way to ensure their guests enjoy a relaxing and memorable experience. After completing some renovations to the 100 year old church, the couple opened the hostel last September and have been welcoming guests from all over the world since. The hostel is open year round and is ideally located at the top of the Cabot Trail. Nearby activities include hiking, biking, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, kayaking, whale watching and sight seeing. Cape North is close to many even smaller fishing communities where the offerings of fresh seafood is abundant.
I have also included Patricia and Bricin in the Everybody Has a Story section of this site where you can read about one of many great experiences I had while visiting Cape Breton. As I said in that story, not if but when I visit Cape Breton again, I will stay at the Highlands Hostel again.

Joey is a young Chinese student that recently arrived in Canada. He had some time on a weekend off to explore the Cabot Trail and chose to stay at the Highlands Hostel. He is a very talented musician and entertained us on the newly tuned piano. If a 100 year old church doesn't give it away, when you see Bricin's well decalled touring motor home (used for long-boarding tours - see Everyone Has a Story), you'll know that you've found the hostel. The guitars are there for anyone that wants to entertain.
